MBT-Waste: Technology and material characteristics
Mechanical and biological treatment (MBT) normally involves mechanical stage – removing of recyclable and bulky materials, particle size reduction - shredding and screening; and biological stage - aerobic or anaerobic processes for reduction of the biodegradability.
It is well known in Europe and Asia. The maximum particle size of waste is reduced by the removal of larger plastic materials from the municipal solid waste during mechanical processing. The mechanical properties of the MBT- waste are significantly changed by this process. The effective treatment system can lead to a better quality of the output materials which not cause environmental problems.
